The ceremony was attended by Turkish Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Hulusi Akar, Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khayre, and Somali National Army (SNA) Chief of Staff General Mohamed Ahmed Jamaali.

In his speech, General Akar said the base is Turkey’s largest military facility in a foreign country and emphasised his country’s commitment to supporting the SNA as it tries to achieve self-sufficiency.

Hassan Ali Khairi thanked the Turkish government for its support and noted that the facility would serve to build a well-trained Somali military.
